APRIL, MAY AND JUNE

HAPPY SPRING!!!

APRIL

    The week of April 14th-April 21st we will be taking the SAT standardized test.  In preparation for that test there are several things you need to be aware of:

1. It is extremely important that everyone is on time everyday.  If your child arrives after testing has started, he or she will not be allowed to enter the class until there is a break in the testing.
2. Please make sure your child gets enough sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.
3. There will be no homework the week of the testing.  Encourage your child to do their best.

       Report cards will be distributed on April 19, 2004.

    Reflections, a collection of poetry written by the students will be completed in April.  The students have worked hard preparing this book and we hope all enjoy it.  Poems will be entered in a school poetry contest.

MAY

    School will be closed for Memorial Day Break.

JUNE

    As the school year draws to an end, I would like to offer some suggestions in order to insure that the children practice good study skills during the summer months and help them prepare for 3rd grade.

• Practice writing skills.  Have children write letters to family and friends or write their own stories.  Encourage them to sound out words.
• Practice telling time.
• Practice counting money.
• Practice addition and subtraction fact to 18.  For a jump start in 3rd grade, have your child memorize multiplication facts through 5.
• Encourage your child to READ, READ, READ!!!  The public library has a large selection of books and it's free!

    With a little practice this summer and a little guidance from you, your child will be ready to begin 3rd grade on the right foot in September!  Have a very safe and happy summer! Thank you for your help and dedication.
